![]() After you remove the cap, there’s a small transparent section which protrudes from the device and, next to it, there’s a small laser (Linear CMOS 128 pixels). On top of the pen scanner, next to the logo, there are two LED lights, one for the showing an active Bluetooth connection (a blue LED), while the other shows the status of the battery (a green LED) and towards the narrow end of the pen, there’s a microUSB port used for charging the device (not type-C). Usually, pen scanners are small and lightweight devices which can easily fit in your pocket and the ScanMarker Air follows the same ergonomic design, featuring a rectangular case which looks similar to a normal highlighter marker (it measures 5.5 x 1.4 x 1.0 inches and weighs 2.1 ounces – so it also feels like one), covered by a black matte finish (it won’t retain fingerprints) and, on the bottom, towards the front side, the case loses a bit of width to ensure a comfortable position for the fingers and a good grip. The ScanMarker Air is the second available consumer-type pen scanner from the Topscan Ltd company (the first device lacking the wireless capabilities) and it was created to be a simple-to-use, intuitive device that can take away the burden of retyping the text from physical documents (as the base function), but which also supports the text-to-voice feature and it can scan barcodes (as additional functions). ![]() For this reason I have compiled a list of the best pen scanners on the market, so it’s easier to choose the perfect pen scanner for your needs. Now, whether you’re a college student who needs to take notes of entire pages or certain lines from a physical book or if you (or your child) suffer from dyslexia (as well as other literacy difficulties) or have a visual impairment, then this type of device may be suitable for you. Note: As a fun fact, a similar approach to that of a pen scanner has been implemented into some smartglasses (and smartphones, in the form of an app), which should allow its users to either film or take photos of various documents and then later, simply port the text into a digital format. UPDATE : The Youdao Dictionary Pen 3 has been added to the best pen scanners and digital highlighters list 1. Some additional features that would most definitely come in handy in some circumstances are the ability to scan barcodes, the possibility of translating the scanned text into another language on the fly and one of the key elements should the ability of reading the text back at the user. The best pen scanners should be able to quickly scan any type of text and accurately identify the characters (be aware that most pen scanners won’t recognize handwriting or mathematical formulas, but, a reliable pen scanner should at least save them as an image). Of course, the modern applications of this tech can go way beyond the capabilities of a pen scanner, so the OCR has also be found into the banking system (for statements, invoices or check scanning), for software applications (such as testing the CAPTCHA systems), for plate number checking or in any type of industry that needs certain info to be extracted from a document in a timely fashion. development) and overall for a better preservation of the data (such as old books, which would require significant more time and work to survive the passage of time). The pen scanner is one of the best modern pieces of technology that is able to scan an image, machine printed or handwritten text and, by taking advantage of the Optical Character Recognition technology (OCR), it can convert the scanned data into machine encoded text, therefore making it available for easy editing (the data can be immediately loaded in a text editor), automatic translation to another language, text-to-speech applications (useful for visually impaired and blind users, as well as for people that suffer from dyslexia – it is also a key element for A.I.

Excuse the non-arty Python post, dear creative reader. We also had to use the absolutely filthy blanket that were left in the closet. My husband and I had no choice but to sleep in layers with our jackets on. The fire place was turned off starting in April so we didn’t even have that to help the problem. The temperature dropped into the lower 30’s for a couple of days and we didn’t have any heat in there for some reason. The master bedroom, bathroom and shower/tub room were absolutely freezing. It has used tips on the side of the lower bed by the wall and my son slept in the top bunk with a nice view of a years worth of dust in the fan. The bunk bed room is where the kids slept. We only used the two bedrooms upstairs since the kids wanted us close by. ![]() The movie theater has cup holder filled with old food and sticky stuff, one of the leg rests is completely broken and the DVD player did not work. The barrel near the games is covered in crumbs and clumps of food, the window sill had dozens of dead bugs all over it and the windows in the pool area look as if they haven’t been cleaned in months. We explored the house some more and noticed broom and a sticky mess on the game room floor right by the garbage can. The refrigerator had crusty dirt all over the handles, crumbs and fruit stems inside it, the dishwasher was full, the soap at the sink was just about empty and there was something all over the kitchen ceiling. Once we arrived we noticed things didn’t seem right. We booked this trip two years ago and we were so excited to finally stay in the beautiful cabin we saw in the pictures. In April we stayed at the Elk Springs Resort Copper Creek Lodge. We have stayed in several cabins and AirBNB and this is one of the filthiest ones that we have ever stayed in for our annual family reunion. This particular cabin needs a deep cleaning. Bugs in the kitchen and windows need to be clean. Some family members slept on air mattresses and sofas for comfort. Mattresses were very uncomfortable and very very hard. We didn't see it out there due to not being clean at all. Small balcony with one of the upstairs bedrooms was nasty. Big refrigerator was not clean at all upon arrival. Dusty is everywhere: on the blinds and ceiling fans ( Some members were sick due to allergies from dust) 6. Spider webs everywhere: in the kitchen and the bedrooms. It makes a loud sound and doesn't dry clothes at all. One of the bedroom sheets was not clean (upstairs bedroom on the right-hand side) 3. Here's a list of the following housekeeping issues that we experienced during our stay this past weekend: 1. These issues need to be addressed before the next guest arrives at Stairway to Heaven. If I had known about these issues I would have contacted the property management ASAP and taken pictures. We were not pleased with the way the cabin was presented when we arrived at the cabin. It came to my attention on Sunday evening since I was hosting the event that the cabin has many issues, especially with housekeeping. Activities/Restaurants: Brit of Magic/Keith Fields & The Mentalist/Bill Gladwell shows, Ripley's Aquarium, Sky Lift, Mellow Mushroom, Hard Rock Cafe.My family and I had a good time at Stairway to Heaven for our annual family reunion. It was perfect to have a nice quiet sanctuary to "live in", then go back and forth (20 minute drive) to busy Gatlinburg. Comfy chairs, couches, beds, beautiful views and even board games (stocked by host). ![]() We literally used every space of the house, relaxing on the numerous balconies/decks. We enjoyed the 3 levels having master upstairs for us, living space/kitchen/dining room on main and the teenagers downstairs. Kitchen was stocked with absolutely everything - we cooked several nights (grill, oven, stove, microwave, dish washer, coffee maker, TWO fridges (one downstairs) worked perfectly). We even got a call after we got there to make sure everything was ok. They emailed details right after booking, called with door/alarm code early on check in day. Elk Springs was excellent with communication before, during and after our visit. Check in/out was a breeze with the door code. ![]() Every room was exactly as pictured and the home was so cozy, well kept and up to date. Our family of four had a fantastic stay at the Wine Down cabin during spring break (April 2014). |
